Murat-Le-Quaire: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Culture
Murat-le-Quaire is a typical mountain village at an altitude of 1,050 m, with traditional houses made of lava stone and roofs covered with slate tiles. The “Patrimoine rural de Murat-le-Quaire” tour takes visitors through the village on a 30-minute to one-hour discovery walk. Numbered information panels provide details about Ferme Château, fountains, barns, the church, fortification walls and the promontory, the bread oven and washhouse, as well as a small mill.
The small village mill is a true-to-scale replica of a real watermill; its waterwheel is powered by water from the stream flowing from Les Couderts. The Eglise Saint-Maurice is a medieval church dating from the 13th century, which was restored several times in the 19th century; a partial reconstruction was completed in 1902. The church contains a baptismal font carved from Volvic stone, an enamelled lava altar and a painting by P. de Plument.
The Scénomusée Toinette et Julien presents two centuries of Auvergne history through light shows, music, moving objects and special effects.
