Laqueuille: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The La Borne des Quatre Seigneurs circular trail is a difficult, 19 km hike with green trail markings and a duration of 5 hours 30 minutes. It leads to the Cascade du Trador, which cascades down two levels over basalt columns, and then to the summit of the Banne d’Ordanche.

The Cascade du Trador is a waterfall in the forest. At this point, the stream descending from the Banne d’Ordanche crosses a lava flow from a two-million-year-old geological formation.

The Les Hauts de Laqueuille hike is 8.5 km long, takes around two hours and includes 200 metres of elevation gain. The route offers views of the Puy de Dôme, the Chaîne des Puys, the Banne d’Ordanche, the grazing land, Limousin and its plateaus. In spring, Laqueuille is known for its daffodil fields.

The path to the Cascade du Trador in the vicinity of Laqueuille is 1.1 km long and takes around 30 minutes.

Culture and History

Laqueuille is home to the museum trail “De bleu et de sang”, featuring two exhibition presentations about Antoine Roussel and Victor Mornac. Its two main stops are the Laqueuille presbytery and the Caves de l’Empego.

The Laqueuille presbytery stands on the promontory where Laqueuille Castle once stood. The Caves de l’Empego were used as cheese-maturing cellars until the end of the 20th century by descendants of the Roussel family, descended from Antoine Roussel – the father of Bleu d’Auvergne.

A bust of Antoine Roussel l’Aîné was erected in Laqueuille’s square in 1933. Together with his younger brother, he led experiments that resulted in the first Bleu d’Auvergne made from cow’s milk.
