Giat: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Motte Castrale de Giat is considered the largest and best-preserved motte in the Auvergne and is twelve metres high. It was probably built in the 11th century at the request of a count of Auvergne.

The circular walk “En partant de la Motte” is nine kilometres long, takes two hours and 30 minutes, is of medium difficulty and is marked in yellow. A car park for this circular walk is available in Giat at Place de l'Église.

The circular walk “En partant de la halle” showcases Giat’s significant cultural heritage, including the Eglise Saint-Barthémy. Giat’s architectural heritage includes buildings, fountains, wells and low walls that reveal the character of the local stoneworking tradition.

Nature

The Étang de la Ramade is an 83-hectare body of water and a natural boundary between Creuse and Puy-de-Dôme. It is of ornithological interest and is registered as a ZNIEFF.

An ornithological observation point has been established on the shore of the Étang de la Ramade.

At the Étang de la Ramade, visitors can discover this natural landscape of the Combrailles on hikes on foot and by mountain bike.

Markets

The Foire de Giat is a regularly held market with around 150 exhibitors. Fruit and vegetables, agricultural products, flowers, decorative items, clothing, bazaar goods, animals and agricultural equipment are offered.

The tradition of the Foire de Giat is associated with 22 markets held annually; these have been known since as early as the 11th century.
