Saint-Floret: Holiday apartments and houses

At the Sources salées de la Tête de Lion, a trail leads to the wild gorges formed by the Couze Pavin. The main spring feeds one of the most impressive travertine deposits in the Auvergne; at the same time, the Sources salées de la Tête de Lion are part of the European Natura 2000 network.

Nature

From Saint-Floret, the Sources salées de la Tête de Lion can be reached via the RD 26 towards Saurier; there is a car park on the left. The discovery trail there is a 1.3-kilometre circular route that takes about an hour.

Trails and views

The GR® de Pays Tour en Pays des Couzes – Boucle du Val d’Allier No. 1 passes through Saint-Floret. La Chaubasse offers views of the Sancy Massif, the Pic de Brionnet, the Plateau de la Chaubasse, the Couze Valley and Issoire.

The Clémensat route crosses the Pont de la Pède and offers views of Saint-Floret and the gorges of the Couze Pavin. Along the route are orchards, meadows and former terraced vineyards.

Culture and history

The Château de Saint-Floret is a 13th-century feudal castle. The Pont de la Pède connects the two banks of the Couze Pavin; its oratory houses a Romanesque polychrome wooden statue of the Virgin in Majesty.

The Château de Montpentier, a castle, is located in the area around Saint-Floret. The ruins of the Château de Marchidial are nearby. The historic site of the Abbaye de Mègemont and the Château de Chalus, a castle, are also in the surrounding area.

Surroundings

The area around Saint-Floret also includes the Puy d'Ysson, the Puy d'Olloix and the Puy de Mazeyres, each a mountain. Further afield in the region lies the Puy de Monténard, which is also a mountain.
