Traces of early history
Thônes-le-Vieux is a hamlet in the municipality of Grandeyrolles. Its basalt plateau contains caves and shelters with traces of human activity dating from the Upper Paleolithic. Three basalt flows are layered one above the other at the prehistoric shelters.
A cave near the prehistoric shelters of Thônes-le-Vieux was inhabited for a long time and yielded numerous worked flints as well as pottery shards.
