Olloix: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Olloix is a rural municipality in the Parc Naturel Régional des Volcans d’Auvergne, located between the city and the mountains. Anyone choosing Olloix as a destination can plan to rent a holiday apartment for their stay.
Nature
The Gorges de la Monne between Olloix and Cournols are a natural area classified as a Natura 2000 site. The wooded slopes with oaks, ash trees and maples are home to remarkable flora comprising seven protected species, including the Turk’s cap lily, red helleborine, yellow star-of-Bethlehem and willow-leaved sunflower.
History
The Commanderie d’Olloix was built in the 12th to 13th century. It was under the authority of the Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem.
The church of Olloix houses the tomb of Odon de Montaigut, also known as Saint Gouérand. It is also connected with pilgrims who take the Way of Saint James via the Via Arverne.
Trails
The Via Arverna includes a section from Clermont-Ferrand to Olloix. A 5.5-kilometre circular hike leads through the Gorges de la Monne.
Cuisine
La Maison de la Monne offers homemade regional cuisine in a natural setting. The “Monnette”, made with Saint-Nectaire, is also available there.
