Saulzet-le-Froid: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Saulzet-le-Froid is located on a plateau at an altitude of 1,000 m between the Chaîne des Puys to the north and the Monts Dore to the south. The Veyre is formed by the confluence of the Labadeau and Narse rivers, passes through Saulzet-le-Froid and continues its course towards Lac d’Aydat.

Nature and Landscape

The summit of the Puy de Combegrasse is at an altitude of 1,120 m and offers views of the Chaîne des Puys and the Puy de Dôme. The route via the Puy de Montenard offers panoramic views of the Chaîne des Puys, the Monts Dore, the Sancy Massif and the Monne Valley.

The Narse d’Espinasse is a peat bog formed in a maar and, together with the Puy de l’Enfer at an altitude of 989 m, forms an exceptional geological site. It is protected by a prefectural decree protecting the biotope. The protected Siberian iris grows in the Narse d’Espinasse, a plant that has survived from the Ice Age to the present day.

Hiking Trails

The Puy de Combegrasse et narse d’Espinasse route is an easy 9.8 km circular hike lasting 3 hours. This circular hike passes through Saulzet-le-Froid.

The GR4 passes through Saulzet-le-Froid and runs from Royan in the Charente-Maritime department to Grasse in the Alpes-Maritimes.

The Puy de Montenard is an easy, blue-marked circular hike covering 5.0 km and lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes in Saulzet-le-Froid.

The Le puy de Baladou route reaches the entrance to Saulzet-le-Froid and then heads towards Pessade and into the hamlet. The Le puy de Baladou circular hike is 18.5 km long, takes approximately 5 hours and 45 minutes and is classified as difficult.

On the Puy de Combegrasse et narse d’Espinasse route, visitors are asked to stay on the paths in the Narse d’Espinasse area so as not to affect the flora and fauna.

History

Traces of the former Roman road can be seen beside the hamlet of Zanières. The ruins of a former inn called „La Baraque“ are also located beside the hamlet of Zanières.

The church of Saulzet-le-Froid houses a Black Madonna dating from the middle of the Middle Ages.

Activities

Chouette Parc offers a summer toboggan run, inflatable castles, treetop climbing courses, trampolines and throwing games. Chouette Parc is open to hikers, cyclists and walkers.

Local

The GAEC de la Ligulaire farm opened to the public in 2010. It sells directly from the farm and matures some of its Saint-Nectaire on site.
