Culture and History
Saint-Sylvestre-Pragoulin has a clearly identifiable architectural history. The Château de la Poivrière was built in the 14th and 15th centuries. It is partially protected as a Monument historique; the protection covers the façades, roofs, enclosing walls, and chapel in their entirety. The château is located on the border between the Allier and Puy-de-Dôme départements. The parish church of Saint-Sylvestre was designed by the architect Agis Ledru.
The parish church of Saint-Sylvestre in Pragoulin was built from 1867 onward. The Source Sully spring, also known as Bienfaisante, was drilled in 1906.
Landscape and Trails
The Sarmon stream crosses Saint-Sylvestre-Pragoulin from the plateau toward the Allier. Saint-Sylvestre-Pragoulin has hiking trails for family outings and hikes of varying lengths through forests or hamlets.
Located at the hamlet of La Doualle in Saint-Sylvestre-Pragoulin, the Contrée Couleur Sylvestre is marked on site with “Léa et Tino” signage, represented by a yellow butterfly. It is proposed and managed as a hiking route by the Puy-de-Dôme département and is designated as a PDIPR route.
The Via Allier cycling stage from Vichy to Puy-Guillaume passes through Saint-Sylvestre-Pragoulin.
