Espinasse: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Espinasse’s leisure activities include signposted trails. One specific example is “Sur les Traces des Faux-Sauniers”: the difficult, 14-kilometre circular trail is marked in yellow and starts at the Place de l’Église in Espinasse. From there, it leads over a wooded hill and then through bocage landscapes. Along the way, there are views of the Puy de Dôme, the Sancy and the Combrailles plateau.

The Puy de Chazelle circular hiking trail also lies within the municipality of Espinasse. It is approximately 12.5 kilometres long and takes around 3 hours and 30 minutes. From the summit of the Puy de Chazelle, the views extend across the Combrailles plateau and towards the Chaîne des Puys.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint-Martin houses a painted white stone statue. It depicts Saint Margaret of Antioch defeating the dragon and dates from the 15th century. Château de Pierrebrune was the residence of the lords of Espinasse. It dates from the 13th century and was rebuilt in more recent times.

La Villefranche was the main centre of the Saint-Gervais salt store. On 18 May 2025, several hundred hikers made a detour to the information stand at the La Villefranche stele in Espinasse as part of the “Ballades remarquables La Montagne” event. There, they learned about the resistance in the Combrailles, particularly the Camp Gabriel Péri. The forests of Pierrebrune offered smugglers numerous hiding places.

Plants and Events

“Tisanes en Fleurs” offers visits to a garden with medicinal and edible plants. Around 60 medicinal plants grow in the garden alongside numerous wild edible plants.

The “Fête des Foins” is Espinasse’s patronal festival and is organised by the local festival committee. An event featuring PJBlues at 1 p.m. and again in the evening is scheduled for 12 July 2026.
