Vacation apartment in Tupesy: ceramics, pilgrimage and wine
In the center of Tupesy is the Tupesy Ceramics Museum, housed in a former ceramics production building. This building is also Tupesy’s oldest, dating from 1832, and is a monument of folk architecture representing the home of a small farmer and potter. In the ceramics workshop, visitors can make a plate themselves. In the “Za Branou” area, a Slavic pit house from the late 9th or early 10th century was also discovered, along with numerous shards from vessels of various shapes.
Culture
The Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is also part of the town’s history. The Neo-Romanesque chapel was built from sandstone blocks; its construction was completed in 1852. It is associated with the traditional Tupesy pilgrimage around May 31. After the last pilgrimage in 1967, this tradition was revived in 2014.
The Slovakian tradition of Tupesy is still reflected in Fašanky today. This custom includes carnival processions accompanied by cimbalom music. Another regular event is the folk festival “Císařské hody,” held on the third Sunday in October each year.
Landscape
Tupesy lies in the fertile floodplain of the Zlechovský potok stream. Its source is located in the forests of the Chřiby Hills. Connected with the landscape is the 2 km-long Stezka keramiků, which leads in Tupesy to places associated with the local ceramics tradition. The route is suitable for pedestrians and cyclists, decorated with original wood carvings, and equipped with seating areas offering views of the panorama of the Chřiby Hills.
