Polešovice – Wine, Culture and Trails

Polešovice lies at the transition between the Lower Moravian Basin and the Chřiby Mountains. The first written mention of the village dates from 1220; at that time, Polešovice belonged to the newly founded Cistercian monastery in Velehrad.

Culture and History

The Church of St. Peter and Paul is the largest building on the Velehrad monastery’s estates. Despite several renovations and restorations, it has retained its original Baroque exterior and interior design.

The Polešovice traditional costume belongs to the Dolácko costumes of the Uherské Hradiště type in the lower Morava region. Slovácké hody s právem takes place on the second Sunday in October, with 150 to 200 participants in traditional costumes.

The stone reconciliation cross of Polešovice probably dates from the 16th century. It stands on a country path and is approximately 1.5 metres high.

In the Nivy–Torštot area, an open settlement with a fortified farmstead stood in the southeastern part of a spur site and remained in existence until the middle of the 13th century.

At the Zarážání hory event, the vineyards in the Nové Hory wine-growing area are blessed and ceremonially sealed symbolically. Wines from Polešovice winemakers are also tasted and cimbalom music is played.

Wine and Views

The Floriánka lookout tower is 20.2 metres high. From its southern side, the view extends across the entire White Carpathians and the Hostýn Hills to the Pálava Mountains.

Floriánka is named after a white wine-grape variety that was entered in the State Register of Varieties in 2010 and bred at the local wine-breeding station in Polešovice.

The oldest documented name of a vineyard in Polešovice is Mniška, dating from 1454. It provides evidence of a monastic vineyard.

The Košt vína wine tasting, held annually at Easter, brings together local and visiting winegrowers.

As part of the Za vinařem do sklepa programme, from 12 June to 20 September 2026, a different local winery opens its doors every summer weekend and offers wine tastings.

The Šlechtitelská stanice vinařská in Polešovice houses a wine information centre with a sales outlet and a tasting room called Golanské výšiny.

Paths and Routes

The Moravská vinná cycle route passes through the cadastral area of Polešovice.

The Stezka pod Floriánkou trail is just under two kilometres long and leads through Skalka forest park in Polešovice.

The Stezka pod Floriánkou includes ten entertaining tasks. During a walk along the vineyards, visitors can also try a wooden ball run.

The Stezka Muškátu moravského is a 42-kilometre cycle route. Its route leads via Uherské Hradiště, Kostelany nad Moravou, Nedakonice, Polešovice, Boršice, Buchlovice, Zlechov and Staré Město back to Uherské Hradiště.
