Holiday apartment in Suchá Loz – nature and vibrant local culture

Suchá Loz lies in the valley of the Bystřička stream; foothills of the White Carpathians stretch along its southern side. At the same time, the village lies within the CHKO Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. Unique flora can be found on the Horní Louky meadows, including Carpathian orchids – “stavače”. In the surroundings of Suchá Loz, the U Křížku observation tower offers a semicircular view northeast towards Mikulčin vrch, east towards Velký Lopeník and southwest towards Velká Javořina. To the southeast, part of the Povážský Inovec in Slovakia can be seen.

Landscape and nature

Nature takes different forms in Suchá Loz: the Bystřička stream valley, the foothills of the White Carpathians and the protected landscape stand alongside the distinctive meadows of the Horní Louky. The unique flora, including Carpathian orchids – “stavače” – is one of the village’s notable botanical features. Another scenic viewpoint is located in the surrounding area: from the U Křížku observation tower, the semicircular view extends northeast towards Mikulčin vrch, east towards Velký Lopeník and southwest towards Velká Javořina; to the southeast, part of the Povážský Inovec in Slovakia is visible.

Culture and folk customs

An old brick bell tower from the 19th century stands in the village square. The Veleckých Mill dates from the 18th century. Folk customs have also been preserved in Suchá Loz, including the Kateřinská zábava celebration with the “právem žen” custom and the “o botu” contest.

The Sucholožská chalupa hosts various social events, including Christmas, Easter and the Sucholožské hody festival. Several religiously significant sites are also part of the local tradition: the site dedicated to Saint Roch is dated to 1886; a plague epidemic ended in the village that year. The site dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul is dated to the end of the 18th century, while the site dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius dates from the 1860s.

At Berdina, visitors can try on the traditional Sucholožský folk costume. The experience includes putting on the individual layers of clothing step by step and tying a Turkish headscarf. The history and development of the costume are explained during the fitting.

On the move

The 34 km route runs along paved cycle paths and, over a short section, along field and forest paths. The cycling route named after Komenský leads from Uherský Brod via Nivnice and Suchá Loz to Bystřice pod Lopeníkem, Komňa and Bojkovice.

Pramen Slatina is a carbonated, salty mineral spring with a high lithium content. The spring is easily accessible on foot, by bicycle and by car.
