Holiday apartment in Vyškovec: Nature and Kopaničář Culture

At the northeastern edge of Vyškovec lies the 2.8-hectare Chmelinec nature monument. It consists of wet meadows in the valley bottom of the Drietomica stream.

Nature and Landscape

The Chmelinec wetlands lie in a stream valley depression. The broad-leaved marsh orchid (Dactylorhiza majalis) is abundant there; grazed vegetation of the Carpathian meadows from the Anthoxantho-Agrostietum association grows along the edges. Remnants of the White Carpathian meadows have also been preserved at Pod Hribovňou. One of the rare plant species in this area is one of the last occurrences of the yellow gentian.

South of Vyškovec lies the 21.68-hectare Ve Vlčí nature reserve. It is a species-rich area with dry, sun-exposed meadows, wetter depressions, shaded areas and numerous orchid species. The landscape of Moravské Kopanice is also part of the surrounding scenery: small fields, hedgerows and orchards alternate with one another. Štefková, an overgrowing meadow considered an interesting area for botanists, is also located near Vyškovec. The municipality's cadastral area also contains a mineral water spring.

The mountains Kykula, Mikulčin vrch, Vysoký vrch and Nad Barinou are located in the immediate vicinity of Vyškovec. Further afield in the region are the U Kapliček church and the ruins of Starý Světlov, Hrad Čachtice and Zřícenina Tematín.

Culture and History

Vyškovec was established around 1730 as a Kopaničář settlement with scattered houses and holiday homes. Local culture includes traditional Kopaničář embroidery, which can be seen in Vyškovec behind glass doors. A preserved example of folk architecture is the Statek Ve Vlčí farmstead, house no. 40. The complex consists of a stable, cellar and residential building and was built in the 1880s. It was declared a cultural monument on 3 May 1958.

The mountain chapel of Panny Marie Královny stands on a ridge. It is the only place of worship in the White Carpathians built on a mountain ridge. In its honour, Mass is celebrated in Vyškovec on the Sunday afternoon closest to 22 August. Another striking feature is the Vyškovec musical bell tower: it begins playing automatically when a visitor arrives.

The monument to the American airmen is a pilgrimage site in Vyškovec and a frequent destination for tourists.

Trails and Experiences

JK ACD Vyškovec offers riding lessons and riding courses. The services also include rides in the surrounding area. In basic riding training, riders learn how to care for horses as well as how to ride at a walk, trot and canter.

The Naučná stezka Okolo Hrozenka educational trail is 18 km long in total, includes 12 stops and is suitable for hiking and mountain biking. Its southern section is 13 km long, leads from Starý Hrozenkov via Vyškovec and Vápenice back to Starý Hrozenkov, and includes seven stops.

The Krajem Žítkovských bohyní cycle tour also passes through Vyškovec. It follows the signposted cycle route 46, the NS Moravské Kopanice trail and the Stezka Českem long-distance hiking trail.
