Holiday Apartment in Zlechov: Cycle Paths, History and Wine

Zlechov combines cycle paths, sacred monuments, archaeological settlements and viticulture. It is precisely the interplay between specific routes, preserved signs of faith, finds dating far back into the past and tastings today that gives the village several clearly distinct points of access.

Cycling

Cycle Path 5151 runs through Zlechov. The 80-kilometre Velkomoravská pilgrimage cycle route is suitable for bicycle trailers. From Zlechov, the cycle connection can be continued via Tupesy to Velehrad. This means that, in relation to the village, there is both a cycle path running through Zlechov and a longer route connecting in the direction of Velehrad.

Culture

The present-day Church of St. Anne was built in 1992–1994 in the immediate vicinity of the former Chapel of St. Anne, which dates from the 14th century. A Chapel of St. Anne has been documented in Zlechov since the 14th century. Both dates form part of the village’s sacred heritage and link the present-day church with a significantly older reference.

The Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1733, stands in the village square in front of the church. At the cadastral boundary of Zlechov in the direction of Staré Město stands the stone cross known as the “Smírčí kříž”. The “Smírčí kříž” is one of the few surviving stone witnesses to an old legal custom in the region. The wayside shrine known as “Boží muka” bears witness to popular Baroque piety and the tradition of sacred wayside stations.

Archaeology

In the Valy district of Zlechov, a settlement from the Late Roman Imperial period of the 4th to 5th centuries was found, comprising a total of 198 settlement features. This settlement is one of the oldest finds of its kind in the Czech Republic and was the only one of its kind to be fully excavated.

In the Padělky district of Zlechov, a Neolithic settlement dating to around 5000 BC was found, with Linear Pottery culture remains and stone tools, including a shoe-last celt. Thus, Zlechov contains archaeological evidence from the Neolithic alongside the find from the Late Roman Imperial period.

Viticulture and Tastings

In the 16th century, the vineyards of Zlechov were among the largest in the region, covering 57 měřic. Vinařství Jakubík in Zlechov offers guided wine tastings. At its winery, a tasting includes six wine samples and lasts approximately one hour.

A larger tasting at Vinařství Jakubík includes more than 20 wines from tanks, as well as young and aged wines, and includes a tour of the production area. The range therefore extends from a tasting with six samples to a more extensive selection featuring more than 20 wines and a tour of the production area.
