Landscape and Routes

The Cistercian routes through the landscape comprise an easy 4.2-kilometre route and a difficult 9.9-kilometre route. Along the way, they lead, among other places, to a former mill and a former farmyard, across a Baroque bridge and along the medieval paved Háje path. Shorter and more challenging stretches therefore stand alongside different historic sections of path.

The Háj educational trail follows a two-kilometre forest loop. It features interactive tasks, audio stories accessed via QR codes and a rest pavilion. Around the basilica, the “Velehradská hledačka” starts at the Velehrad Information Centre; it is an easy route of around 1.5 kilometres. A second “Velehradská hledačka” is a physically undemanding route measuring 3.8 kilometres.

Velehrad is a hub for cycle paths and cycling routes at the foot of the Chřiby Mountains. The Velehrad Tourist Centre has bicycle facilities with tools and some spare parts; sports kick scooters are also available for hire there.

Pilgrimage and Wine

Tens of thousands of pilgrims gather in Velehrad for the annual pilgrimages. The “Dny lidí dobré vůle” are associated with these pilgrimage events. The aim of this event is to support various charitable projects.
