Holiday apartment in Slavkov: Nature, trails and folklore

Slavkov lies in the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. Its special features are reflected in its nature, trails, culture and history.

Nature

The Dolnoněmčanské louky Nature Reserve is located in the cadastral area of Slavkov u Uherského Brodu. It protects a landscape of considerable ecological value with important plant and animal communities. Further botanical highlights can be found in several protected areas: the Porážky National Nature Reserve is home to the only site of robust lousewort in all of Central Europe. The Kolo Nature Reserve features species-rich wetland vegetation and a significant population of the flesh-colored orchid. The highly endangered snake garlic grows in Slavkovský háj.

For tourists and nature enthusiasts in the region, ČSOP Pantoflíček organizes nature excursions several times a year upon request. Requests for these excursions are particularly frequent during the orchid flowering season. Guided visits to some nature reserves are also possible from Slavkov.

Trails and educational paths

The “Kronika slavkovské krajiny” educational trail comprises ten stations and begins in front of the Charitní dům sv. Petra a Pavla. The Lucká hledačka consists of two routes jointly prepared by the town of Hluk and the municipalities of Slavkov and Dolní Němčí. Route A of the Lucká hledačka leads from Horní Němčí via Slavkov to Dolní Němčí.

Slavkov is also connected with some notable destinations. The summit of Velká Javořina can be reached from Slavkov by bicycle and on foot. The Lucké pole memorial site can be reached from Slavkov via newly constructed cycle paths.

Culture and history

A bell tower dating from 1927 stands in the centre of Slavkov. It was built on the site of an earlier wooden bell tower. In the Horní pole area, the commemorative pear tree has stood for more than 300 years on the border between Horní Němčí and Slavkov. The administration of the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area designated it a commemorative tree in 2009.

The Folklorní den takes place in August of every even-numbered year. In Slavkov, the event presents traditional costumes, folklore ensembles from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and a traditional crafts fair.

The Lucké pole landscape also has a historical connection: it is associated with a meeting between the troops of the Bohemian prince Vladislav I and the Hungarian King Štěpán II. Under unclear circumstances, the forces eventually clashed.
