Holiday apartment in Jankovice: Chřiby, church and Hody

Jankovice lies in the Chřiby valley on both sides of the Jankovský stream and stretches from southeast to northwest. Hiking trails from the direction of Kostelany, Salaš and Halenkovice run through the village. Other defining features of the village include historic religious buildings.

Culture

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built from 1839 to 1841 and consecrated on 21 November 1841 by Josef Berdhauer, Dean of Uherské Hradiště. It has been protected as a cultural monument since 3 May 1958; its register number is ÚSKP 27088/7-3338.

The second religious building in Jankovice is the Chapel of Saint Anthony. It stands beyond the village on a road leading deeper into the Chřiby; the forest encloses the valley there on both sides. The chapel was built in 1906 by local resident Josef Zgarbík.

Nature

The roof spaces of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary are home to a regionally significant summer colony of greater mouse-eared bats (Myotis myotis). The tower is also inhabited by serotine bats (Eptesicus serotinus). The church is part of the European Site of Community Importance “CZ0723750 Jankovice – kostel”.

Near the Chapel of Saint Anthony there is a spring whose stone vault is engraved with the year 1912.

Visiting

The historic Baroque tower clock can be visited year-round by prior telephone appointment. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was previously part of the Otevřené brány programme and was open to visitors free of charge from 1 May to 30 September. Free guided tours and guided visits with commentary were offered.

The U Králova stolu spring can be reached from a dirt track via a worn path and is accessible year-round.

Traditions

The traditional krojované Hody in Jankovice are part of the Hody season in August. The Slovácké krojované Hody was a folk tradition event held on 16 and 17 August 2025 at the Březičky grounds in Jankovice.

The Folklorní festival Jankovice reached its fourth edition and provided a stage for dance and singing ensembles from Slovácko and Slovakia.
