Holiday apartment in Žítková: Moravské Kopanice educational trail and nature

Žítková is particularly appealing along the Moravské Kopanice educational trail. It introduces the landscape around Žítková and Starý Hrozenkov and presents historical and natural sights at around 14 stops. The educational trail follows forest and field paths and is suitable for hikers and mountain bikers; in winter, it is also suitable for cross-country skiers.

Hiking

The main circular route of the Moravské Kopanice educational trail is 11.6 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 410 metres. There are also two branches with their own distances: the branch to Lokov is 4.7 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 110 metres, while the branch to Hutě is 1.1 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 50 metres. Including the branches, the total length is 23.1 kilometres.

Nature

The Hutě Nature Reserve protects an area of considerable landscape value and, in particular, significant plant and animal communities. It overlaps with the Bílé Karpaty European protected area (3314) and the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area (71). Along the Moravské Kopanice educational trail, the Hutě Nature Reserve is considered the most valuable protected area. There are also protected orchid meadows in Žítková.

Culture

In Žítková, you can still find a group of original houses. The information centre with a small museum provides tourist maps and a flyer with tourist routes. Thus, in addition to the landscape impressions, local information and route tips are also central.

Another cultural highlight is the Kaple Panny Marie Kopanické. The chapel was built in 1990 and consecrated on 8 September 1991. It is dedicated to Our Lady of Kopanice, Saints Cyril and Methodius, Agnes of Bohemia, and Saint Zdislava of Lämberg. The altar features a statue of Our Lady of Kopanice with the Child, wearing traditional Kopaničáři folk dress.

Local specialities

Sýr od kapličky is located in Žítková, house number 201, and is run by the Šustekovi couple. Sheep's milk is processed there; sheep's milk products are also made and sold. A small refreshment service is available as well. The sale of products and the small refreshment service are open from April to October and are usually unavailable outside this period. Sýr od kapličky offers sheep's cheese, bryndza, žinčica and oštěpek.
