Holiday apartment in Nivnice: Culture, Tradition and Leisure
Nivnice combines local history, traditions and various leisure activities. Historical places of remembrance, an exhibition on rural culture, and opportunities for sport and exercise create a multifaceted picture of the town. The time span is also remarkable: local history stretches from a church documented as early as 1403 to a section of a cycle path opened in 2009.
Culture and History
The Church of the Guardian Angels in Nivnice stands on a site where a church was already documented in 1403. Another cultural site is the Dr. Josefa Kachníka Foundation House. It houses a museum founded in 1966 by the local history circle. The Komenský Educational Library is also located in the Foundation House. It was founded on 28 March 1928 by ThDr. Josef Kachník, a professor at Charles University who came from Nivnice.
The Nivnická izba exhibition was established in 1975. It displays traditional costumes and a traditional rural interior with a table, chairs, a “láva” and other household items. The Nivnická izba is open to the public during the local hody celebrations; at other times, visits are possible by prior telephone arrangement. The local festival culture also includes the traditional costume “Nivnický kroj”, which is maintained and preserved for local festivals and performances by ensembles from Nivnice.
The Bartkův mlýn water mill complex in Nivnice is a registered cultural monument. Bartkův mlýn is considered the birthplace of Jan Amos Comenius. The memorial room dedicated to Jan Amos Comenius opened in 1992 as an exhibition about his life and work. Since 2002, it has been located in the vestibule of the second-stage building of ZŠ Nivnice, in the immediate vicinity of Bartkův mlýn.
Water and Sport
The Nivnická Riviera offers a swimming pool and a paddling pool for children. The complex also includes a sports area with tennis courts and a volleyball court. This means that the same leisure facility offers both water areas and opportunities for various ball sports.
Activities
Cycling also makes it possible to combine part of the local history and culture. The first section of the “Krajem J. Á. Komenského Nivnice – Uh. Brod” cycle path running through Nivnice was opened in 2009.
Local Production
Another historical trace of the local economy leads to the Prágrova distillery: from 1872 onwards, it produced the well-known slivovitz.
