Holiday apartment in Vápenice – Kopaničář culture and nature

Vápenice has the character of an old Kopaničář settlement: The village was established as early as before 1740 and belonged to Starý Hrozenkov. This historical connection provides a gateway to the customs, music, protected landscapes and active pursuits in the surrounding area.

Culture

The local music tradition includes the men's choir from Vápenice. It continues the tradition of Hude music and a folklore group that was active in Vápenice in the past; its repertoire consists primarily of songs from the Kopanice region. During fair celebrations, the men's choir performs at the bell tower in Vápenice as well as at the bell towers in Žítková and Vápenice.

The annual cycle is also shaped by traditional events: In Vápenice, a maypole is traditionally erected in April. The Kopaničář village celebrates its fair in September, and a mass is held at the bell in Vápenice in the same month. In addition, Vápenice hosted an invitation to the 14th gathering of heligonka players.

Nature

The protected area of Mravenčí louka (Rubaniska) lies in the surroundings of Vápenice. It covers 15.3 hectares and comprises a species-rich complex of original pastures, overgrown field margins, and scattered groups of shrubs and trees with endangered plant species. Several orchid species and other rare plants grow in Mravenčí louka.

The protected area of V Krátkých is also located nearby, with flower-rich orchid meadows, wet meadows and two ponds. These ponds are an important habitat for amphibians and aquatic insects, especially dragonflies.

Activities

The “Around Hrozenko” educational trail is 20 kilometres long, moderately difficult and designed for pedestrians. Eight information panels provide insights into the life and culture of the Moravian Kopanice region in the past and present. The trail passes through the surroundings of Starý Hrozenkov, Žítková, Vyškovec and Vápenice, thereby connecting several places in this landscape along a single route.

For winter sports, the popular ski resort on Mikulčin Vrch is located near Vápenice, with several downhill runs and lifts. In the same area, the Lopata slope is suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers. Cycle route 46 also runs across Mikulčin Vrch.
