Pitín: Holiday apartment between the White Carpathians and educational trails

Pitín lies in the central part of the White Carpathians landscape. The entire cadastral area belongs to this landscape region, which has been protected as a landscape area since 1980. At the same time, the town lies on the upper course of the Olšava River. This combination of protected landscape and river course defines the geographical setting around Pitín.

Nature and landscape

Here, the White Carpathians are characterized by flower-rich orchid meadows alternating with forests consisting predominantly of deciduous trees. Above Pitín, on Jahodisko Hill, stands the more than 100-year-old Dub rodiny oak. In good visibility, the view from there extends over Pitín, the Pavlov Hills, Ždánický les, Chřiby and the Vizovice Highlands. The Kolelač Reservoir can also be seen, specifically from the viewpoint at Pitín’s former railway station.

Cycling routes and educational trails

In Pitín, the regional Bojkovska cycling route No. 5049 from Uherský Brod meets the Beskydy–Carpathian Highway No. 46. The highway provides cyclists with safe access to the central ridge of the White Carpathians and the Moravské Kopanice region. For hikers and mountain bikers, the Moravské Kopanice Educational Trail follows forest and field paths to Pitínské Paseky and the Chapel of Panna Marie Kopanická; at this point, it provides information about the birdlife of the surrounding landscape.

Another route is the Bojkovická Educational Trail. It leads from Bojkovice railway station via Pitín, Hostětín and Šanov to the Na koncích border elevation. There is a long circular route of 24 km and a short circular route of 16 km; a total of 10 information boards are located along the route. One of these boards covers Pitín and traditional fruit varieties. The Naokolo Hostětína Educational Trail also has a station at the Dub rodiny oak on Pitínské Jahodiska.

Culture and remembrance

Local history and visible memorial sites come together in Pitín. Josef Karel Matocha was born on 14 May 1888 as the fifth child of the farmer and blacksmith Josef Matocha in Pitín No. 59. He died on 2 November 1961 in Olomouc and is buried in the cemetery in his hometown of Pitín. A memorial plaque was unveiled at his birthplace in Pitín No. 59.

Next to the school stands a Baroque stone statue of the Virgin Mary with the Child. It is attributed to Josef Winterhalter and was acquired between 1758 and 1774. The Parish Church of St. Stanislav was built in 1851 on the site of an older chapel. The Stanislavské hody festivities, held around 7 May for the feast day of Saint Stanislav, are part of the religious and local festival calendar.

The surrounding area is also marked by special sites. The Chapel of Panna Marie Kopanická in Pitínské Paseky was built in 1990 and consecrated on 8 September 1991. Its altar features a statue of the Virgin Mary with the Child wearing traditional Kopaničár dress. The Orel association regularly organizes the Pitěnský škrpál tourist hiking march.

Sculptures and views

The Sochy v krajině project consists of a group of 15 wooden sculptures connected by a path. The sculptures are distributed across the cadastral areas of Hostětín, Pitín, Šanov and Rokytnice. The project also includes the Kráva wooden sculpture above Pitín.

Above Pitín, the Naokolo Hostětína Educational Trail offers, in good visibility, views of the towers of three nearby churches as well as the more distant pilgrimage sites of Velehrad and Hostýn. The trail therefore leads from local landscape landmarks to regional religious destinations on the horizon.

In summer, the swimming pool on the grounds of the NIVA sports club can be used. At the Kolelač Reservoir, access to the reservoir and fishing were prohibited due to stricter water-protection measures.
