Landscape

Ořechov lies in the southeastern foothills of the Chřiby hills and in the valley of the Ořechovský potok stream. Extensive vineyards still cover the southeastern slopes of Ořechov. A tourist cycling route also runs through Ořechov. The Moravská vinařská cyklostezka also passes through the village. The route "Kolem štěrkopískových jezer na rozhlednu" leads through Ořechov and complements the other two cycling connections with its own route.

Culture

Ořechov Castle was built on the site of an earlier fortress. One wing of Ořechov Castle was converted into a Roman Catholic chapel. A Baroque chapel was also added to Ořechov Castle. Following restoration carried out after 1941, it remains in use to this day.

The listed Kaple sv. Václava, with its bell tower, stands in the park in front of Ořechov Castle. The Kaple sv. Václava in Ořechov contains a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1747. It was rebuilt in 1849 and reconstructed in 2011–2012. Another memorial is the Kaplička Andělů strážných on the road to Syrovín. It was built in 1873 as a memorial to the soldiers from Ořechov who returned from the war.

Festivals and customs

The village’s recurring events include various cultural occasions. Every year, on the feast of Saint Wenceslas, Ořechov hosts Slovácké hody s právem, with large numbers of young people and children in traditional dress taking part. An Easter market is also held regularly. The local events calendar likewise includes the regularly held Košt ořechovky.

The Folklórní sdružení Ořechov works to preserve and further develop the folk traditions, customs and traditional dress of the Slovácko region. At the same time, the association aims to organise public cultural events. Alongside the historic buildings, this also places traditional forms of public cultural life at the centre of attention.
