Discover Provodov: Pilgrimage Church, Castle Ruins and Nature

Since the 18th century, the Church of Our Lady of the Snows near Provodov has been an important pilgrimage site in the region. It can be visited with a guided tour from May to September. On Saturdays, the visiting hours are from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 16:00; on Sundays, from 12:00 to 14:00 and from 15:30 to 17:00. A guided tour is available during the opening hours. The church is a registered cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

Landscape

Provodov is located in Luhačovické Zálesí and the Vizovice Highlands, in a hilly landscape with small forests, meadows and fields. The various types of landscape can be taken into account when planning alongside cultural visits and historic trails.

Culture

The Malenisko pilgrimage site is located on a slope of the Brda ridge in the Vizovice Hills, about 1 kilometre southeast of Provodov. Next to the Malenisko church stands a chapel built in 1865. At the chapel, you can drink the local spring water; the spring is located beneath the church altar. A steep Stations of the Cross leads from the Malenisko chapel to the summit of the ridge.

Komora u č.p. 38 is a two-storey masonry chamber with a wooden arbor. This type of building was once typical of residential houses in the Luhačovské Zálesí area. 38 is a registered cultural monument of the Czech Republic. On the village square in Provodov stands a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1774. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is also a registered cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

History

The Rýsov castle ruins are a castle complex from the 13th century on a spur south of Provodov. A neck ditch, rampart and acropolis with rocky cliffs have been preserved. Traces of the anchoring of wooden structures can be found on the rocky cliffs. The castle is mentioned in writing only once, in 1517; at that time, it was already described as abandoned.

Starý Světlov is a medieval castle ruin from the 14th century with its central section preserved, remains of masonry structures, an outer bailey, extensive earthworks and an outlying bastion. From the Church of Our Lady of the Snows, the castle ruins can be reached on foot via a green hiking trail and a forest path; the route is not suitable for pushchairs.
