Prlov is located in the northeastern part of the Vizovická vrchovina, in a basin along the Prlovský potok. About 40 percent of its 712-hectare area is covered by forests. The Prlov Nature Monument comprises flower-rich meadows with rare orchids and other specially protected plants; its three sections are located approximately 190 metres west, 480 metres northeast and 1.2 kilometres east of Prlov town centre. Nearby is the state-protected Neratovský rybník, which is notable for its diversity of waterbird species as well as for the presence of invertebrates, including dragonflies, and amphibians.
History
Prlov is believed to have been founded around 1300. The first written mention of Prlov dates from 1361.
Trails and Memorial Sites
The 4.9-kilometre-long, or approximately 5-kilometre-long, Naučná stezka Prlovským lesem educational trail is located in the northern part of Prlov and presents the historical and natural attractions of the municipality of Prlov and its surroundings. It passes the Chapel of Saint Hubert and includes a forest rope playground, a replica of a partisan bunker and a memorial related to the tragedy of Prlov.
Culture and Events
The public programme at Stodola u Rohlíků in Prlov includes theatre, concerts, stand-up comedy, workshops, films and events for children. Stodola u Rohlíků can be reached by car, bus, bicycle or on foot; the Prlov, obec bus stop is approximately 300 metres away.
Prlov also hosts the traditional fire brigade sports event Memoriál obětí Prlova. Participants commemorate the victims of the aforementioned tragedy.
