Velká Lhota: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Velká Lhota lies above the Bystřička Reservoir on the northern ridge of the Vsetín Hills. The municipality is crossed by the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area. The highest elevations in Velká Lhota include Vrchhůra at 693 metres and Ostrý vrch at 672 metres.

Landscape and Nature

Velká Lhota offers views of the Rožnovská Bečva valley and Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, as well as the surrounding Beskids, the Vsetín Hills, the Javorníky and the Hostýn Hills. Rare orchids and other rare flowers grow along the forest edges, including Fuchs's finger orchid and the man orchid.

The local wildlife is also characterised by notable species: rare bird species nest in the area, including the subalpine warbler, red-backed shrike, whinchat, common raven, hazel grouse, black woodpecker and ring ouzel. Several rarer amphibian species occur in the wetlands and ponds of Velká Lhota. A mighty maple tree is a prominent landmark of the municipality of Velká Lhota.

Culture and History

The wooden Protestant church without a tower in Velká Lhota was built in 1783. Jan Karafiát, the author of Broučci, was the Protestant pastor in Velká Lhota from 1875 to 1895. The wooden Toleration prayer house in Velká Lhota was declared a national cultural monument in 2008. Services and other religious ceremonies continue to be held every Sunday in the wooden Toleration Church.

Routes and Activities

Several marked hiking trails pass through the municipality. The Jan Karafiát educational trail is 14 km long and has 16 stops. It introduces visitors to the nature and history of the area around Valašské Meziříčí and leads to the municipality of Velká Lhota.

In winter, cross-country ski trails run along the ridges. The terrain is increasingly used for mountain biking. Among the listed buildings in Malá Lhota is a wooden bell tower. The sandstone rocks of Medůvka are easily accessible from Malá Lhota and are used as practice crags by climbers.

Transport

A bus service connects Velká Lhota with Valašské Meziříčí; it was operated by ČSAD Valašské Meziříčí.
