Horní Bečva: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Horní Bečva combines protected mountain scenery, a reservoir with a wide range of uses, and distinctive paths through the surrounding area. The village lies in the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area, at the transition between the Beskids and the Vsetín Hills. The Rožnovská Bečva also rises in the cadastral area of Horní Bečva, below the summit of Mount Vysoká, which reaches 1,024 m.

Landscape

One of the area’s distinctive landscape formations is Kudlačena. It is a typical example of a Beskydy Sihla, meaning a submontane wet meadow, in the cadastral area of Horní Bečva. Kudlačena is also designated as a natural monument there.

Water

The Horní Bečva Reservoir is a focal point of the village in its own right. In summer, swimming, water sports and fishing are possible there. Access to the water is provided by a grass beach, a gently sloping sandy entrance and a bathing jetty. The lake can also be circumnavigated along an easy walking route of just under 2 km.

The Bečva Cycle Route begins below the Horní Bečva dam. It follows the Rožnovská Bečva towards Rožnov pod Radhoštěm or as far as Valašské Meziříčí. Thus, different landscape connections are found along the same body of water: the lake itself, the river course and the route that follows the watercourse through the region.

Trails

For shorter outings, there is the Kulíškova educational trail. It is child-friendly and easy, 2.5 km long and includes ten interactive stations. The starting point is a short distance below Hotel Horal, near Hotel Pod Javorem. Another special feature is a series of five themed walking loops following the trail of the fairy-tale goblin Špírek: Kudlačena, Přehrada, Bobišek, Kyčera and Šorstýn.

Longer routes are also part of the trail network. An 11 km highland loop leads from Horní Bečva via Kotlová, Benešky and Polana. Above the former quarry in Horní Bečva, viewpoints form an approximately 3 km circular route. Three modern rest pavilions stand there; the route offers views of the reservoir and the surrounding hills.

Winter Sports

Cross-country ski trails run above the Horní Bečva Reservoir between the Rališka and Sachova studánka ski areas. The routes lead across meadows and offer options according to difficulty level. The Rališka ski area can be reached via the road from Rožnov pod Radhoštěm to the Bumbálka border crossing and lies approximately 1.3 km to the right above the Horní Bečva Reservoir. Its facilities include a two-seat Doppelmayr chairlift; the longest descent is 650 m long.

In the Mečová ski area, the descent is suitable for beginners, children and snowboarders. At Sachova studánka, the ski area operates a ski bus between the central car park on the main road and the ski area.

Culture and History

The history of the village is reflected, among other things, in the Church of Saints John and Paul. Construction began in Horní Bečva in 1791, and the church was consecrated on 23 May 1802. Another historical connection lies at the mountain pass between Horní Bečva and Velké Karlovice, known since ancient times as Benešová, also Beneška. A continuous strip of maple stands belonging to subjects was established there.

Haferobraní is also part of the local character. On 13 July 2024, this traditional festival in honour of blueberries from the local forests took place in Horní Bečva. The offerings included blueberry tastings, blueberry dumplings, Kanco-Knedlo-Hafero-Zelo and blueberry beer. The event thus combines a specific date, a local forest fruit and several named dishes and drinks.
