Landscape and Trails

Velké Karlovice is located in the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area at the foot of the Javorníky and Beskydy Mountains. Marked hiking and cycling trails around the town pass through a typically Wallachian landscape with meadows, mature forests and scattered Wallachian houses.

The natural lake in the Jezerné Valley was formed in the past by a landslide. A cycle route from Velké Karlovice to Valašské Meziříčí is more than 57 km long.

Culture and History

The Karlovské Museum is located in the historic centre of Velké Karlovice. One of its exhibitions documents the production of pressed and hollow glass in the local glassworks, which have since been closed.

The museum's ethnographic collection includes locally made tools for agriculture and mountain farming, as well as methods of processing wool and flax and making sheep's cheese.

The wooden Church of Our Lady of the Snows has a cruciform wooden structure and a Baroque tower above the centre of the church. It was founded in 1754 by František, Count of Žerotín.

A timbered Fojtshof building dating from the 18th century has also been preserved in the Bzové Valley.

Views

The Miloňová Lookout Tower is a 24-metre-high wooden tower offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. It can be reached via the green circular trail.

The Velké Karlovice Information Centre provides information on ČD and ČSAD timetables, as well as ski buses and bike buses.
