Water and culture

The Bystřička waterworks is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Because of its unique architectural and urban design and technical equipment, it was declared a cultural monument in 2003. Bystřička also has a special historical classification as a dam: it is one of the oldest dams in the Czech Republic and the oldest dam in the catchment area of the Morava River upstream from its confluence with the Dyje.

Another historical trace leads to Mount Klenov. The remains of a medieval castle can be found on its rocky summit, Zámčisko. Ceramic finds date the existence of this castle at Zámčisko to the 14th century. Bystřička also once had a craft tradition of making torches, Křivák knives and household wooden vessels. These vessels were known as "valašský porcelán". The term therefore belongs to an earlier craft tradition of the locality.

Klenov and its rocks

The Klenov massif features large and scenically impressive rock formations made of sandstone and conglomerate, some of which are interpreted as frost cliffs. The rock formation at Klenov includes a narrow gorge, a small fissure cave and rock ledges. It also includes a rock window with notably precise dimensions: it is 165 cm long and 35 cm wide.

The rocky landscape is closely thematically connected with the summit of Zámčisko and the castle remains located there. Thus, geological formations and a medieval archaeological find meet at Klenov, although the two phenomena do not date from the same period. The mountain is therefore shaped by different, clearly identifiable elements: sandstone and conglomerate, a gorge and fissure cave, rock ledges and a rock window, as well as the remains of the castle on the rocky summit.

At the reservoir

The main beach at the Bystřička reservoir is partly covered with grass and partly sandy. The access to the water slopes gently. Near the main beach there is a rental service for boats and paddleboards. Thus, at the same body of water, the precise nature of the shore and a rental service for boats and paddleboards stand alongside each other as distinct features.

The connection between the water surface, shore and paths is also reflected in the cycle routes. The green cycle route 6119 runs around the Bystřička reservoir and continues to the municipality of Valašská Bystřice. The blue cycle route 6018 descends to the Bystřička reservoir.

Paths through the landscape

The Klenov educational trail is 7 km long and has 10 information boards about the geological, botanical and zoological features of the Javorníky Mountains. In summer, it is suitable for walkers and mountain bikers, and in winter also for cross-country skiers. It begins at the Bystřička reservoir and follows the blue hiking trail markings to a lookout point near the nature reserve below Mount Klenov. From there, it continues to the rocky summit of Zámčisko, the turn-off to the Svantovítovy Rocks and the Louky pod Štípou natural monument.

The Klenov educational trail can therefore be followed precisely through its stations and trail markings: from the reservoir via the lookout point near the nature reserve below Mount Klenov to Zámčisko, the Svantovítovy Rocks and Louky pod Štípou. The information boards supplement the route with geological, botanical and zoological features of the Javorníky Mountains, while the stated uses distinguish between summer and winter.
