Oznice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Oznice, marked trails meet historic places of remembrance. Between a historic bell tower, monuments on the ridges and the wooden Oznička lookout tower, a village landscape emerges in which nature and history lie closely side by side.

Culture and History

At Forajtka in Oznice stands a protected wooden bell tower with two bells, one of which dates from 1737. After the First World War, it was moved to its present location near Forajtka; it originally stood by house number 15, belonging to the Hrabovský family in Lípí.

Next to the road running through Oznice, near the municipal office, stands a stone cross erected in 1906 at the expense of the married couple Zetek. In the Píšková saddle, a simple stone monument also commemorates T. G. Masaryk. It stands in a green clearing with ornamental shrubs and young lime trees.

On the slope above Oznice stands a restored partisan bunker that was reconstructed in 1980. At this site, the partisan Augustin Bártek from Brňov was killed in combat with German police forces on 1 March 1945.

The hills around Oznice also preserve historical and religious traces. On a mountain ridge at the cadastral boundary between Oznice and Banky, near the Na pasekách area, there is a sandstone block bearing the inscription “Kaiser Franz Josefs - Hohe 1898”. It commemorates Emperor Franz Joseph I’s visit in 1898. On the ridge of the Hostýnské vrchy, at the boundary between Oznice and Branky, near the farmstead at Mrnuštíků, a simple wooden wayside shrine dedicated to the Virgin Mary stands between two mature lime trees. The pilgrimage site at Mrnuštíků hosts a Pentecost Mass in May.

Traditional crafts are also part of the village’s history. In the past, the inhabitants of Oznice earned additional income by weaving brooms and making Wallachian shoes, carts, sledges, wooden tools and other wooden objects.

Landscape and Trails

An approximately 13.5-kilometre yellow-marked trail runs through the eastern foothills of the Hostýnské vrchy. Along the route there are numerous panoramic views of nearby ridges and the Vsetínské vrchy opposite. The trail begins at the Oznice ČSAD bus stop and leads via Kuželek, Lázy, Háje, Pod Chladnou and U Holáňů to the bridge in Pržno.

The Oznička is a prominent lookout point. The privately owned wooden lookout tower is located in the Hostýnské vrchy above Oznice, on the route between Mikulůvka and Oznice. It is almost eight metres high and has existed since 2019; its viewing platform was opened to the public in 2023. Oznička is freely accessible, although visitors climb it at their own risk. The approach from Oznice follows an approximately 1,200-metre-long, steeply rising route to a saddle; for the final 200 metres, a mountain bike is more suitable than a road bike.

From Oznička’s covered platform, five metres above the ground, there is a view of the adjacent settlement and the surrounding pasture-covered hills. Through an opening to the northeast, the summit of Radhošť in the Beskids can be seen.

Oznice is also included in a described cycling route. The 45-kilometre cycling circuit “Na Kelečský zámek z Valmezu” runs via Valašské Meziříčí, Poličná, Branky, Kelč, Kunovice, Loučka, Podolí, Oznice, Mikulůvka and Jarcová back to Valašské Meziříčí and is suitable for e-bikes, gravel bikes and mountain bikes. On the section towards Oznice, it follows cycle route 6220 through Oznice. From the “Nad Oznicí” junction, it first follows a yellow-marked trail and then switches to the green-marked route.
