Nítkovice lies on the border of the Vyškov and Kroměříž regions, 24 km southwest of Kroměříž. The village is situated in the heavily forested hilly landscape of Litenčická pahorkatina. History, nature and community life are reflected here in many specific details.

History and culture

The village name itself reaches far back into history: in 1349, the settlement was initially called Nětkovice; from 1360 onward, the form Nítkovice became established. A fortress once stood on the hill known as Hrádek, mentioned in written records in 1536. Kozojedsko, first mentioned around 1360, is also a district of the municipality of Nítkovice.

Kozojedský dvůr is a Baroque estate dating from 1732. The estate is currently used exclusively for agriculture and keeps poultry and rabbits. The dairy, carpentry workshop, accommodation and restaurant are no longer in operation. The chapel is named the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary.

Nature

A remarkable natural landmark is Oskeruše u Kozojedska. On September 4, 2009, the tree was 18 metres tall, approximately 100 years old and had a trunk circumference of 303 centimetres. The protected remarkable tree is located in the cadastral area of Nítkovice; its protection zone exists by law.

The deep forests around Nítkovice invite visitors to take relaxing walks. Regional cycle route 5029 runs west of the village in the direction of Vyškov–Koryčany; local cycle paths in the Nítkovice area connect to it.

Community and everyday life

Various events organized by the local community have taken place in Nítkovice every year since time immemorial. The Gulášfest was held in Nítkovice in 2021 and 2022. Thus, alongside the historic traces and the wooded landscape, recurring events from local community life are once again part of the village scene.

For everyday necessities, Nítkovice has a JEDNOTA-COOP grocery store. The village also has a seasonally open municipal restaurant with a garden under a pergola by the fire reservoir.

Getting there

Nítkovice has no direct rail connection. The nearest railway station is Brankovice in the Vyškov District, approximately 7.5 km as the crow flies from the village centre. It is located on regional line 340 between Brno and Veselí nad Moravou. Nítkovice is also connected to other municipalities by bus routes and has a bus stop.
