Žlutava lies on the northwestern edge of the Zlín District in the foothills of the Chřiby Mountains. The village combines landscape, trails, sacred architecture and sites of remembrance. The focus is not only on individual attractions: the routes, markings, historical references and locations of notable buildings also give the village a multifaceted character.

Getting around

The Stezka Žlutava circular trail is 6.8 kilometres long and marked in orange. Another established feature is the Stezky Branou do Chřibů trail network, intended for hiking, running, Nordic walking and mountain biking. The circular routes in this trail network run mainly along field and forest paths. In addition, the NS po Žlutavských vyhlídkách educational trail has panoramic boards with landscape images and views. Thus, the designated trails accommodate various forms of movement and different ways of viewing the landscape, without the individual routes losing their own names and distinct character.

Nature

A striking natural feature is the lime tree by the chapel in Žlutava. It is classified as a protected memorial tree. The connection with the Chřiby Mountains is also evident in the cross-country skiing route across the Chřiby: it runs along the main ridge of the Chřiby Mountains. Thus, alongside the circular routes that run mainly over field and forest paths, a named mountain ridge and a single protected tree also represent the village’s landscape connections.

Culture

The Church of St. Cyril and Methodius in Žlutava was completed in the second half of 1939. Its tower is 17 metres high. The building is located in the northeastern part of Žlutava’s village square. The construction period, height and location are therefore clearly definable features of this sacred building. The church is also a visible part of the village square, whose northeastern section is defined by its position.

History

Another historical connection leads to the partisan group that monitored transports on the Přerov–Napajedla–Břeclav railway line. Associated with this context is the Paraskupina Bohuš monument: it commemorates the dropping of a partisan group on 21 February 1945 in the forests around Kudlovská dolina. The Paraskupina Bohuš monument is located near a quarry. The memorial site is therefore further defined both by the specific date and location of the drop and by its proximity to a quarry.

In the vicinity of Žlutava, Malenovice Castle contains the grave of a warrior from Žlutava with a sword, quiver, bucket and spurs. Also in the vicinity of Žlutava is Napajedla Castle, a Baroque castle with historic halls associated with the nobility of Napajedla. Both destinations extend the cultural context beyond the village itself: one preserves a grave with specifically named grave goods, while the other combines Baroque architecture and historic halls with the nobility of Napajedla.
