Veselý Žďár: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Veselý Žďár presents its history at specific sites of remembrance: the Liberation Monument commemorates the liberation, while the chapel, linden trees, and other features provide the village with additional historical points of reference.

Culture and History

The Liberation Monument was unveiled on 28 October 1919 to commemorate the liberation, on the village green by the pond in front of the inn owned by Mr. Kubáta. A broken granite block was used as the material; the monument was carved by the local stonemason Jan Krupička, house number 86. During the Second World War, it had to be removed on the orders of the gendarmerie, dismantled, and stored at Karel Pecha’s house, number 82. On 28 October 1946 at 2 p.m., it was erected again.

The monument to those who fell in the First World War is also part of the local culture of remembrance: it was reconstructed in 2001 based on a design by Ing. arch. Voigstová. The first documentary record of Veselý Žďár dates from 1379; old documents from that time mention the name “Zdar”.

The Chapel of Saint Wenceslas stands beneath the crowns of four linden trees. In 1933, it was repaired using the proceeds from a house-to-house collection and consecrated again. An arboretum is located on the site of the former poplar trees; there is also a shelter in the school garden.

A white-tailed eagle breeds in the cadastral area of Veselý Žďár. The Vysoká and Melechov mountains are located in the surrounding area. Horní Chlum [Lučice] is a hill in the immediate vicinity of Veselý Žďár, as is Ostrov [Okrouhlice-Olešnice].
