Lány lies at the foot of the Železné hory Mountains and has a varied relief. The entire municipal territory of Lány belongs to the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area.

Nature and Landscape

The cadastral territory of Lány u Libice nad Doubravou lies predominantly in Zones II and III of the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area. In the southern part west of Suchá, the Hradiště locality extends into Zone I at its edge.

Lány and Suchá lie predominantly in Zone II of the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area. This zone features a balanced relationship between natural features and human structures, increased ecological and aesthetic value, and favourable natural conditions for recreation.

At the southern edge of the Lány settlement stands the tree “Lípa v Lánech”, designated as a memorial tree. It is approximately 25 metres high. The Lánská lípa is 500 years old.

Hiking and Cycling

The KČT route “Route 1 – via the highest peaks of the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area” follows the green-marked trail from Libice nad Doubravou to Lány and leaves the settlement after approximately 100 metres.

The circular hiking trail through the Doubravské údolí valley also passes through Lány.

The 38-kilometre cycling route “With Doubravka through the Železné hory: along a geocycling route in search of the memory of giant trees” begins and ends in Libice nad Doubravou.

Culture

In the centre of Lány stand a wooden bell tower and a stone cross dating from 1897.
