Dolní Město: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

A concise introduction to Dolní Město is the Melechov a Podlipnicko cycling route. It begins in the square of Dolní Město and connects historic churches with natural landscapes. The route includes mountain biking in the Melechov area and passes Čertův kámen.

Culture

St. Martin’s Church was originally dedicated to Saint John; its current patronage of Saint Martin is first mentioned in 1653. Partially preserved murals in the church probably date from the first half of the 14th century.

The original building of St. Margaret’s Church was constructed before the middle of the 14th century; the square tower was added only in the second half of the 17th century. Medieval murals were discovered there in 1941 and are dated to the last decade of the 14th century. St. Margaret’s Church in Loukov stands on the site of the vanished village of Loukov.

A distinctive landmark in the area is Hlava XXII. It depicts Jaroslav Hašek and takes its name from the Czech title of Joseph Heller’s novel. The monument is an almost three-metre-high granite head weighing 18 tonnes, standing in a meadow at the crossroads of Lipnice nad Sázavou and Dolní Město.

The churches in Dolní Město and Loukov are open every weekend in July and August from 10:00 to 17:00.

Nature

Čertův kámen is a geomorphologically distinctive granite tor with two rock basins on its summit platform. The isolated rock formation lies in the forest on the southern slope of Melechov peak at an altitude of 640 metres.

The proposed Čertův kámen natural monument is located in the Vysočina Region, in the Havlíčkův Brod District, in the municipality of Dolní Město and in the cadastral territory of Rejčkov.
