Hrádek u Podmok preserves well-preserved remains of a small castle on a promontory above a stream. The site dates from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries.

Landscape and Bodies of Water

Podmoky lies on the border between the Vysočina Region and the Central Bohemian Region in a gently rolling landscape near Golčův Jeníkov. The cadastral area includes three larger ponds: Starý, Nový and Rousínov; two of them are suitable for swimming.

The Brslenka stream flows through Podmoky. It is formed by the upper course of the Čáslavka and the Hluboký potok and flows into the Doubrava.

The privately owned Rousínov pond is located by a mill. Cabins stand on its dam and are used for summer camps. Sport fishing began on 1 April 2025 at Nový rybník in the cadastral area of Podmoky near Golčův Jeníkov. Fishing in the 451 099 Nový rybník fishing grounds is prohibited until further notice due to fish mortality.

History and Village Character

The first written mention of Podmoky dates from 1360; at that time, the village was mentioned in historical sources as part of the Golčův Jeníkov estate.

During excavation work for the foundation of a barn, coins from the time of Václav II were discovered at house number 82 in 1912. Bracteates, known in Czech as “braktáče”, from the time of Přemysl Otakar II were also found in Podmoky. The coins were minted between 1193 and 1278.

The Church of the Virgin Mary in Podmoky was built in 1908 and renovated in 1981. Podmoky is also home to the filial church of the Name of the Virgin Mary. The brick bell tower, built in 1835, stands in its original location.

Activities

A marked hiking trail runs through Podmoky from the Golčův Jeníkov–město railway station towards Tisí skála and onward to Horky railway station.

At the U Hajdúchů family farm, visitors can get to know and pet Huacaya alpacas up close. The family farm’s visitor enclosures contain alpacas, goats, Kunekune pigs, Belgian Giant rabbits, as well as waterfowl and poultry. The family farm produces and sells honey from its own beehives.

Getting There

Podmoky can be reached from the I/38 main road. When travelling from Čáslav, turn right at the beginning of the Golčův Jeníkov bypass and follow a local road for approximately 2.5 km to Podmoky.
