Libice Nad Doubravou: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The historic Libická stezka trade route, which connected Bohemia with Moravia, ran through Libice nad Doubravou. In the Doubrava Valley area, it passed below the main ridge of the Železné hory Mountains.

Culture and History

The Church of St. Giles is considered the oldest landmark in Libice nad Doubravou. A wooden predecessor probably already stood here in the 10th century. Today, the church has a Gothic nave, a tower built at the beginning of the 17th century in the High Baroque style, and a baptismal font from the 14th century.

Libice nad Doubravou Chateau is a Baroque chateau originally dating from the 18th century. It was expanded and remodelled in the Neo-Gothic style in the 19th century. The glassworks founded by Antonín Pešout is part of the local history of craftsmanship: production ended in 1915, and only the residential building remains, while the workshops are in ruins. The machinery was powered by a 16-horsepower water turbine.

Pilnův statek also reflects the history of the village. The farm dates from the late 18th century, was reconstructed in 1869, and is owned by the municipality, which is trying to preserve it as a typical farmhouse. Pilnův statek offers accommodation for visitors who want to hike or cycle in the surrounding area.

Nature and Trails

The 13.3679-hectare Svatomariánské údolí Nature Reserve lies in the immediate vicinity of Libice nad Doubravou. The Doubrava River retains a natural course there, while the adjacent floodplain is home to well-preserved ash-alder alluvial forests. Mount Spálava, located in the district of Libice nad Doubravou that bears the same name, is the second-highest peak of the Železné hory Mountains. Nearby, in the Spálava district, are high rock formations known as Mrazové sruby.

The Svatomariánské Valley can be explored from Libice nad Doubravou via local roads and paths. The route passes former mills and a former glass-cutting workshop; however, there is no marked hiking trail through the valley.
