Discover Nejepín: Landscape, Trails and History

Nejepín combines a gently hilly landscape with marked trails and visible traces of its history. In the village centre stands a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. Together with the castle, iron crosses and trails into the surrounding area, these features reveal the different facets of the locality, which can be discovered side by side during a visit.

Geographical Setting

Nejepín lies in a gently hilly landscape in the immediate vicinity of the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area. The locality’s immediate terrain and the landscape setting of the protected area therefore meet directly here. Its geographical location can be understood both through the gentle ridges and through its proximity to this protected landscape area.

Hiking and Cycling

A blue-marked hiking trail runs in a northeast–southwest direction through the wider regional surroundings of Nejepín. The trail from Leškovice via Nejepín to Jilem is also marked blue. The trail to the Zkamenělá řeka can begin in Nejepín, making it a separate starting point among the routes mentioned.

The Kobylí hlava rock formation is also connected to a marked route: it lies on the blue-marked trail from Uhelná Příbram to the Zkamenělá řeka. The trails are thus described using different reference points – a compass direction, a sequence of connected localities, a possible starting point and a rock formation along the way. A cycling tour also leads via Nový Dvůr, Klouzovy and Nejepín, complementing the hiking trails with a route featuring several place names. The trails therefore show different spatial relationships: they run through the wider regional surroundings, connect named localities or lead to a specific point.

Culture and History

The castle of the Lords of Dobřanský is one of the cultural sights in Nejepín. One of the locality’s most significant monuments is a Neoclassical castle with a mansard roof dating from the late 18th century. Nejepín Castle is first mentioned in 1692. The first written mention of Nejepín itself, however, dates from 1488. The two years mark different historical reference points: one refers to the castle, while the other refers to the locality.

The village landscape also includes two iron crosses on granite plinths. Together with the Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in the village centre and the castle, they form several visible historical elements that point beyond Nejepín’s buildings and smaller monuments to the locality’s historical development. The village landscape thus brings a building, smaller monuments and a religious symbol together; the years 1488 and 1692 supplement these visible elements with two separate historical points in time.
