Skuhrov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Skuhrov's written history dates back to 1352. In that year, the settlement was already a thriving community with a church and its own parish.

Culture and History

In the center of Skuhrov stands the Church of St. Nicholas on a small hill, surrounded by a cemetery. It was originally built as a Gothic church in the first half of the 14th century. The church tower was added in 1811 in the Empire style; a walled-up Gothic portal has been preserved in the south wall of the nave. The church has been protected as a cultural monument since 1963.

The cemetery surrounding the church includes a rectangular Baroque mortuary chapel dating from 1707 to 1712. The church also contains a statue of the Suffering Christ from the mid-18th century and a stone baptismal font dating from around 1700. Skuhrov's Baroque parish house was built in 1728 by V. Smekly.

Sacred Sites and Traditions

The rectangular Chapel of St. Florian, built in 1783, stands on the road to Havlíčkův Brod. Its façade is articulated by pilasters supporting a cornice and a semicircular pediment.

In front of the gate of house no. 64 in Skuhrov stands a granite cross with chamfered edges. According to local tradition, it is one of the crosses that once lined the Haberská trade route. Mass is held twice a week and additionally on public holidays in the Church of St. Nicholas.

Hiking

A yellow-marked hiking trail from Lipnice nad Sázavou to Lysá passes through Skuhrov. On August 24, 2016, a 10 km hike led from Skuhrov along the yellow trail in the direction of Komárov and Malčín, then via Dobrá Voda to Pohled.

Transport Connections

Road I/38 between Kolín, Havlíčkův Brod, and Jihlava runs along the edge of Skuhrov. Bus connections link Skuhrov with Habry and Havlíčkův Brod. There is neither a railway line nor a railway station within the Skuhrov area.
