Dolní Sokolovec: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Doubrava River flows through the valley for approximately 5 km. Other specific features of the surrounding area range from a protected natural monument to distinctive rock formations.

Nature

Písník u Sokolovce is a protected natural monument covering an area of 0.411 hectares. It preserves a partially flooded former sand quarry with an abundant population of round-leaved sundew, as well as a spawning refuge for amphibians.

According to the founding provisions, Písník u Sokolovce is not open to the public.

Landscape

The Doubravský pilíř rock formation reaches a height of more than 15 m. Mikšova skála is also more than 15 m high.

Čertův stolek is one of the best-known and most frequently visited rock formations and offers a view from its summit. The rock formations in the Doubrava Valley are visited mainly by climbers.

Climbing is permitted for members of the Czech Mountaineering Club at selected rock formations in the Údolí Doubravy nature reserve.

Getting Around

The demanding, predominantly road-based 50 km Chotěboř–Havlíčkova Borová–Krucemburk–Podmoklany–Chotěboř cycle route passes through Dolní Sokolovec. It is designed for trekking bikes.

Dolní Sokolovec can be reached by bus from Chotěboř or Libice nad Doubravou.

History

In the vicinity of Dolní Sokolovec, in a romantic valley of the Doubrava between Bílek and Libická Lhotka, there is a tourist lookout point at the site of the medieval Sokolovec (Sokolohrad) guard castle.
