Michalovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Michalovice lies 5 km southwest of Havlíčkův Brod on the road to Humpolec. The village is situated in a gently undulating, agriculturally used landscape in the area of the Úsobský potok.

History and Commemoration

The documented history of Michalovice begins in 1377: at that time, the village was mentioned as „villa Michalowicz“, a designation interpreted as „village of Michal’s people“. In 1430, Michalovice belonged to Mikuláš z Lípy and thus to Lipnice Castle.

Michalovice is also connected with the biography of Karel Kutlvašr. He was born on 27 January 1895 in Michalovice near Havlíčkův Brod, served in the Czechoslovak Legions and commanded a company in the Battle of Zborov in July 1917. In 1928, at the age of 33, he became one of the youngest generals in the Czechoslovak Army. In May 1945, he commanded the fighting on the barricades during the Prague Uprising. In May 1991, a marble memorial plaque with gold lettering was unveiled on the birthplace of General Karel Kutlvašr.

In a small park on the village square in Michalovice stands a memorial to those who fell in the First World War. It lists six names: Frant. Kutlvašr, Frant. Kučírek, Josef Blažek, Josef Fikar, Jan Morkus and Václav Technik; the inscription bears the years 1914–1918. The memorial to the soldiers of the Romanian Army is located at a junction on the outskirts of the village, where the road to Humpolec branches off. Another memorial cross to Romanian soldiers stands in a small wooden chapel with a wooden cross at the transition between forest and meadow in the cadastral area of Michalovice, very close to the municipal boundary of Petrkov.

The historic Michalovský, also known as Dočkalův, mill is located on a millrace of the Úsobský potok. The mill is documented in the registers of the Krásná Hora parish on 29 March 1676.

Hiking Trails

Several traditional routes lead to or pass through Michalovice. A blue-marked trail ran along the Úsobský potok to Michalovice. A six-kilometre hike organised by the KČT led from Dočkalův mlýn to Michalovice, from where the group continued by bus.

The 25-kilometre hiking route of the Havlíčkobrodská padesátka 2024 led from Havlíčkův Brod via Petrkov, Lípa, Dobrohostov and Michalovice to Poděbaby and back to Havlíčkův Brod. On 10 January 2026, a KČT group travelled by bus from Havlíčkův Brod to Michalovice to hike from there through the snow-covered landscape to Okrouhlice.
