Strmilov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Strmilov features a central landmark: the Empire-style Church of St. Giles stands on the market square. After the major fires of 1824 and 1835, it was rebuilt in the Empire style; construction of the new building took place from 1843 to 1849. The three-nave church has a 33-metre-high prismatic tower. Its furnishings also include a stone baptismal font dating from 1725.

Culture and Crafts

The Church of St. Andrew also preserves traces of history. Its presbytery contains frescoes dating from around 1604. A memorial plaque on the church names nine American airmen who were shot down near Vlčice in August 1944 and buried beside the church wall.

Another aspect of the town is represented by Tkalcovna Kubák. The craft workshop works with traditional wool processing and weaving and produces designer home textiles. It currently makes mainly wool blankets, plaids and throws, as well as cotton tablecloths, placemats and bags.

Nature and Activities

Cycle Route 1113 between Telč and Jindřichův Hradec passes through Strmilov. The Hamerský potok has a preserved original riverbed, which has undergone only minor changes.

The events calendar includes Open Air Strmilov, an annual concert held in the town’s sports grounds. On 14 August 2026, Tlustá Berta, Walda Gang and The Fibers performed there.

Surroundings

The nearby surroundings of Strmilov include Kalcův vrch and the Church of Svatý Ondřej. The mountains Vysoký Kámen, Křemení and Babí hora are also located in the area.
