Sloupno: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Sloupno is located in the Železné hory Protected Landscape Area. The Železné hory area around Sloupno belongs to the Trhovokamenická vrchovina, whose dominant mountain is Vestec. At 668 metres, Vestec is the highest point in the Železné hory area.

Landscape

The Vestec terrain feature is a hill in the immediate vicinity of Sloupno. The terrain feature (Martovy) [Slavíkov u Chotěboře], a hill, is also located nearby. In the wider regional surroundings of Sloupno are the terrain features Bučina and Světka, both of which are mountains.

The Sloupno quarry near the village of Štikov is active and extracts metadiorites, metagranitoids, amphibolites and metagabbros of the Iron Mountains Pluton.

Cycling

The Ždírec nad Doubravou–Havlíčkova Borová–Bílek–Štěpánov–Ždírec nad Doubravou cycle route passes through Sloupno. The Chotěboř–Havlíčkova Borová–Krucemburk–Podmoklany–Chotěboř cycle route also runs through the village. The Ždírec nad Doubravou–Sloupno–Veselý kopec–Radostín–Ždírec nad Doubravou cycle route is a difficult, hilly route that runs mostly on roads and is suitable for road and trekking bikes.

Culture and Village Character

A stone wayside statue is a landmark of Sloupno. Sloupno also has a restored bell tower and a cast-iron cross. In 2005, the Štikovská lípa received the title “Hero Tree” in the nationwide “Tree of the Year” competition.
