Near Nová Ves u Světlé, the Sázava River and a local stream have formed a deeply cut valley with steep slopes. There are seven ponds in Nová Ves u Světlé and its immediate surroundings: Horní rybník, Dolní rybník and Říhovka directly in the village, as well as Dvořákův rybník behind the football pitch near Nová Ves u Světlé, Hluboký rybník, also called Wagnerův rybník, and two Zástěrova rybníky near the Radost recreation complex.

Since 1959, storks have returned every spring to the chimney of the distillery in Nová Ves u Světlé. From spring until the end of summer, it serves as their habitat, where they regularly raise their young. Ředkovský rybník in the vicinity of Nová Ves u Světlé is used for swimming.

History

The first documented references to Nová Ves u Světlé date back to the 1370s and are connected with the history of Lipnice Castle. A cast-iron cross at Ředkovský rybník commemorates the drowning of the miller Václav Nečil and a boy.

The monument commemorating the abolition of forced labour was erected to mark the 50th anniversary of its abolition. The monument to those who fell in the First World War is a granite monument with a lion and names 19 men from Nová Ves u Světlé who died in the war. The lower chapel is also known locally as Špálova Chapel, while the upper chapel is also known locally as Dubnova Chapel.

Getting around

A red-marked long-distance or ridge hiking trail runs through Chřenovice, Ledeč, Světlá nad Sázavou, Nová Ves u Světlé and Okrouhlice. Cycle Route 4155 runs from Vilémov via Habry, Nová Ves u Světlé and Lipnice to Humpolec.

Events

In 2021, Nová Ves u Světlé hosted the 11th traditional Bramboriáda, including a competition for the best potato pancake. An afternoon of entertainment is planned in Nová Ves u Světlé for 29 August 2026, featuring a competition for the best potato pancake, other potato competitions, bicycle acrobatics, activities for children and a dance event in the evening.

Transport connections

Bus services connect Nová Ves u Světlé with the district town and other municipalities. Nová Ves u Světlé has no direct rail connection; railway stations for passenger and freight transport are available in Horní Pohleď, approximately 2 km away, or in Světlá nad Sázavou, approximately 3 km away.
