Křižanov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Křižanov combines distinctive sacred sites with a landscape of forests, fields, meadows, and field margins. At the same time, its historical traces reach far back: the first written mention of St. Wenceslas Church dates from 1239.

Culture and History

A Romanesque church probably already stood on the site of today’s St. Wenceslas Church in the 11th century. The present-day presbytery dates from the Gothic reconstruction of the 14th century. St. Barbara’s Chapel also points to an early building history: it has an early medieval core and is located at the corner of Zámek and Bezručova streets.

Křižanov is also associated with Saint Zdislava, who was born here around 1220 as the first child of Přibyslav and Sybila. Her monument stands in the historic center as a modern sacred element; Křižanov is referred to as the saint’s birthplace. The central element is a bronze sculpture of Saint Zdislava by the sculptor Otmar Oliva. The monument also includes a round fountain and a ring of twelve granite columns.

Sacred Sites and Events

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk on Masaryk Square is one of Křižanov’s tourist attractions. The Marian Column on Benešovo Square is another of these attractions.

The Zdislavská pouť takes place in Křižanov every year at the end of May. Středověký podvečer is one of the town’s best-known cultural and social events.

Landscape and Location

Křižanov is located in the Českomoravská vrchovina region. The Libochůvka stream flows through the town. There are numerous forested areas within the Křižanov area; fields, meadows, and field margins can also be found there. Five roads lead into Křižanov.

Airfield and Surroundings

The Křižanov Aeroclub airfield hosts national-level sport flying competitions and offers sightseeing flights.

In the surroundings of Křižanov, a picturesque open-air pilgrimage chapel stands on Svatá hora. Today, it is visited not only by believers but also by tourists seeking peace away from the bustle of the modern world.
