Kaliště U Horních Dubenek: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Jihlávka Bird Park is being established between Jihlávka, Horní Dubenky, Kaliště and Býkovec. It stretches from Bor Pond to Býkovecký Pond and also includes the nationally significant Rašeliniště Kaliště Nature Reserve. Býkovec lies along a stream in a mountain valley on the Studená–Batelov road.

Nature

In Jihlávka Bird Park, visitors can observe common snipe, lapwings and stonechats. At its southernmost point, “u křížku”, the park can be easily viewed from the roadside.

History

The origins of Býkovec are attributed to a fortress built by a nobleman and connected to a manor farm. Býkovec’s historic estate comprised 188 hectares: 77 hectares of fields, 31 hectares of meadows, 23 hectares of pastures, 44 hectares of forests and 5 hectares of ponds. The former manor mill in Býkovec was later converted for the spinning operation of the Tomáš Novotný company, including a fulling mill.

Culture

The chapel in Býkovec is dedicated to the Virgin Mary under the patronage of “Mediatrix of All Graces”. It was built from 21 September to 30 November 2009 and received its building approval on 9 December 2010. Around 250 people attended its consecration; the ceremony was accompanied musically by pupils and teachers of the Jihlava Elementary Art School.

Easter customs in Býkovec include men, young men and boys going from house to house in a large group. On 14 February 2026, a colourful carnival procession with 65 imaginatively designed masks also made its way through Býkovec.

Routes

The 92-kilometre, green-marked Litohošť–Sosnový les bridleway passes through Býkovec and runs across fields and grass tracks. The nearest bus stops are listed as Kaliště and Býkovec.
