Vrbno Nad Lesy: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vrbno nad Lesy was first mentioned in writing in 1143. In the same year, Prince Vladislav donated Vrbno to Strahov Monastery. In the Middle Ages, Vrbno was divided between St. George's Monastery, the Premonstratensians from Strahov and the abbess of Panenský Týnec.

Church and Parish House

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is an Early Gothic church dating from before 1321. It is single-naved and was remodelled in the Baroque style, with a narrower presbytery; both parts have a rectangular floor plan. A prismatic tower with a bulbous dome is attached to the north side of the church.

The parish house of Vrbno nad Lesy is a single-storey Baroque building consisting of two rectangular wings arranged at right angles to each other; the main wing faces the square. The Baroque parish complex comprises the parish house, a utility building, a gate and an enclosing wall with another gate. The parish complex defines the centre of Vrbno nad Lesy and borders the north-eastern side of the square.

The gate of the parish complex has two portals: a larger portal with a vaulted round arch and a double-leaf gate, as well as a smaller straight entrance with a door.

Cemeteries and Remembrance

On a field path between Vrbno nad Lesy and Hřivčice, in the cadastral area of Hřivčice, there is a Jewish cemetery with gravestones from the 18th century. The cemetery of Vrbno nad Lesy is enclosed by an originally preserved surrounding wall and contains numerous old Czech gravestones. The grave of Václav Kozák is located in the cemetery; the inscription on the grave describes him as an Olympic champion, European champion and rower of the century. Together with Pavel Schmidt, Václav Kozák won Olympic gold in the double sculls in Rome.

Line U40 is a daily interregional service operated by České dráhy. Vrbno nad Lesy is a stop on this interregional line between Slaný and Louny.

The Boušov hill, Oblík hill, Pozdeňský les [Mšec] hill and Srdov hill are located in the vicinity of Vrbno nad Lesy. The ruins of Hazmburk are located in the immediate vicinity of Vrbno nad Lesy. In the wider regional surroundings of Vrbno nad Lesy are the ruins of Zřícenina Pravda, the ruins of Hrádek and the ruins of Hradek Oltářík.

In Panenský Týnec, there is a church fragment with a bell tower connected to the former monastery.
