The extraordinary cityscape of Žatec, part of a UNESCO World Heritage ensemble, is defined by the vertical landmarks of the hop-drying kilns and the tall chimneys of the sulfur chambers.

Museums and Exhibitions

The Žatec Hop Museum is housed in an industrial monument that exemplifies industrial functional architecture from the late 19th century. It is the world’s largest exhibition of its kind and presents the development of hop cultivation from the early Middle Ages to the present day across 4,000 m². The museum offers children the game “Cesta chmelového skřítka Hopa”, at the end of which participants receive a small gift.

The Renaissance malt house houses a permanent exhibition on malting featuring archaeological finds. In an interactive exhibition, visitors can make their own pencil.

The K. A. Polánka Regional Museum presents the history of the area around Žatec through unique collections and divides the museum visit into four tours. The tour of the main building includes the exhibition “Žatecký stroj času” (“Žatec Time Machine”).

Historical Sites

The reconstructed synagogue in Žatec features richly decorated interiors, a gallery, and a rabbi’s house. It houses a permanent exhibition on the Jewish history of the region.

The Meder House is one of the oldest and most valuable burgher houses in Žatec and offers interactive exhibitions on the history of Žatec.

Other Attractions

The Temple of Hops and Beer has a charging station for e-bikes; charging cables for Universal, Bosch, and Shimano types can be borrowed there. The tour to the Hop Lighthouse uses an elevator with 3D projection and offers views of Žatec. The Temple of Hops and Beer also has an observation tower overlooking Žatec’s city center and the surrounding hop fields. The Temple of Hops and Beer is home to the Hop Astronomical Clock, described as the only one of its kind in the world.
