Závist: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

In Závist, local history and customs are closely intertwined. A stone cross beside the chapel bears the year 1857 and features stone symbolism of the Holy Trinity in its design. The brick bell tower was built in 1833 by Mariana Šumanová, the widow of a local innkeeper, and dedicated to the Holy Trinity. The bell tower on the village green underwent extensive restoration in 2014.

Culture and History

The round well in Závist is also one of the village’s distinctive details. It was restored in 2000 and continues to receive water from the former municipal water supply, whose sources were located above the village.

Festivals and Customs

Závist’s village festivals take place on the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity. Under the auspices of the municipality, the library organizes cultural events several times a year, including a kite festival and a Saint Nicholas celebration. The library in Závist also has a study area with free internet access. A Saint Nicholas celebration or a witches’ bonfire is regularly held for children in Závist.

The traditional annual cycle also includes the Christmas gathering of residents on the village green by the Christmas tree. It includes the ceremonial lighting of the tree as well as a performance by children. As part of local traditions, a maypole is also erected on the village green.

The Masopust procession and the Závistské hody together form the largest social event of the year in Závist. A traditional Masopust procession featured original masks and humorous scenes; the procession followed a circular route through Závist and included stops for refreshments.

Nature and Cycling

Závist provides access to nearby deep forests and untouched nature for recreation. Marked cycle route 5221 runs along the northern edge of the cadastral area. No marked hiking trail passes through the cadastral area of Závist.

Transport and Roads

In the built-up part of Závist, there is a bus stop on road I/43 with bus bays and a shelter. It is connected to the village by a separate pavement or footpath. The nearest railway station to Závist is located in Rájec-Jestřebí, approximately 10 km away, on ČD railway line No. 260 between Prague, Česká Třebová and Brno.

The heavily trafficked I/43 road divides Závist into two parts and makes it difficult to cross safely between them.
