Křtiny: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Křtiny lies at the upper edge of the Josefovské údolí karst valley. The town combines sacred architecture and unusual memorials with an arboretum, a scenic walking trail, and destinations in the valley and underground.

Culture

The Church of the Holy Name of Mary in Křtiny is a Baroque monument designed by Jan Santini-Aichel and is open to the public year-round. The church houses a Gothic statue of the Virgin Mary of Křtiny.

The Křtiny ossuary is part of the town’s distinctive historical character. It contains the remains of hundreds of medieval inhabitants of Křtiny, as well as several skulls decorated with mysterious ornaments.

Another special feature is the carillon in Křtiny: it has 33 bells and can be programmed with up to 1,000 songs.

Nature

The Křtiny Arboretum covers 23 hectares. Around 1,000 native and exotic woody plant species are cultivated there; the arboretum also features the “Domácí dřeviny” educational trail.

The arboretum is home to more than 25 wooden sculptures and objects created by students of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology at Mendel University in Brno.

Things to Do

Radostná cesta is a walking trail approximately two kilometres long with an elevation gain of 50 metres. Several viewpoints along the way offer views of the church and the town centre.

The cycling network in the Moravian Karst passes through Křtiny on a recommended route via Hádek towards Adamov.

Křtiny Swimming Pool is located in the valley of the Křtinský potok stream. The grounds offer free permanently installed parasols, outdoor play equipment for children and a swing, a changing room, toilets, and outdoor showers.

Výpustek Cave is located about two kilometres from the centre of Křtiny and can be reached by bicycle or car. It offers a journey 40,000 years back through history.
