Holštejn: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Holštejn is located in the northeastern part of the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area and is surrounded by the rock formations of the Bílá voda Nature Reserve. One of the area's natural features is Propadání Nová Rasovna: it is an active, open ponor of the Bílá voda in Holštejn.

Nature and Geology

The Holštejnské údolí is a geotouristically interesting geotope filled with Quaternary fluvial sediments. The Holštejnská jeskyně is also a geotouristically interesting geotope.

Hiking and Climbing

The marked trail from Holštejn leads westwards to Šošůvka and southwards to Ostrov u Macochy, as well as onward to other parts of the Moravian Karst. A marked hiking trail passes the remains of Holštejn Castle.

The excursion route through the Moravian Karst passes through the climbing areas of Holštejn; from Holštejn, it continues along the river to Baldovec.

Climbing at the Holštejnská jeskyně is permitted year-round; the descent is by rappelling. At the V Buči climbing sector, climbing is permitted from July 1 to December 31; there too, the descent is by rappelling. At the Vaňousovy díry climbing sector, climbing is permitted year-round; the descent is by rappelling.

History and Traces

The first documented written mention of Holštejn Castle dates back to 1268. The castle was founded in the 13th century by Hartman of Ceblovice. In earlier times, the Lidomorna Cave was used as a prison, or more precisely as a starvation dungeon.

In the immediate vicinity of Holštejn lies the abandoned Malá Dohoda wall quarry, about 1 km southwest of the village on the Holštejn–Sloup road.
